Diary of a videosong – Last part – Editing

Here it is, this adventure started last april has come to an end. It took six months to give birth to this videosong. Six months during which I had to deal with everyone’s schedule, during the recording, mixing and editing. I’m a bit anxious and proud to show you this video, and hope you’ll like it. You can read below [...]

Diary of a videosong – part 6 – audio mixing

In this type of project, planning is essential to avoid spending long hours resynchronizing everything.
As everyone records with whatever equipment they have, some problems are bound to happen – you find yourself with exotic file formats, and tracks all over the place that rarely start at the same point in time.

Once you get past those technical issues and you have a proper session setup, you can start mixing as you’d normally do.
You then have two main options. The first one is to work alone and release it when you’re done, deciding when “this is it” and not taking into account possible objection or remarks – it’s good enough, end of discussion, and it can save you from making endless corrections.

    Don’t start a band !

The videoSong is a great tool to create music in many different ways. Inside the videoSong phenomenon can be distinguished other phenomena or trends rather interesting. One of them is the virtual reunion of a group. We have all been part of a group that broke up after a move, childbirth or even an argument… and when a group splits, [...]

    Diary of a videosong – part 5

Part 1 – Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 We had been out of touch for a long time, but when I called her to propose this project, she accepted right away. Olivia came to my place on a Sunday afternoon to record her voice for our videosong…. It was a direct flash back to 6 years ago for me (back [...]

    Diary of a videosong – part 4

Part 1 – Part 2 - Part 3 Note for those who want to start a collab: if you can, try to record the drums first because it is easier to lay guitar or bass tracks on a drum track than the opposite. Otherwise, plan to re-record the other instruments when the drum is done. We didn’t think to do it, which earned Julien [...]

    Diary of a videosong – part 3

Part 1 - Part 2 If you ask me what is the hardest thing in this project I will answer without hesitation: time management. If it is easy to manage your time when you make a videoSong alone it’s totally diffrent when there are 5 people envolved and it’s even more complicated when nobody lives in the same city. We played together [...]

    Diary of a videosong – part 2

If you missed the part 1 I decided to collect the impressions of my friends with few questions. Here are the answers of Julien, the bassist who now lives in Lille (north of France). What does this project mean to you ? Multiple things, first the chance to make some more music with the band that mattered most to me, [...]

    Diary of a videosong – Part 1

Recently, I was wondering what would my next videosong be all about. I had a few bits and pieces going on but nothing really final. But after a phone call with Julien, who was the bassist of my former band, it came to me. Just as Faireset was describing in his interview, I decided to attempt a multi-person, at-a-distance videosong [...]
